Australian Truck Market Demonstrates Resilience Amid Economic Headwinds
November Sales Decline Yet Market Poised for Third-Best Year on Record

The Australian truck market has exhibited remarkable resilience in 2025, despite facing economic challenges and a decline in sales figures.
According to the Truck Industry Council (TIC), November saw a 12% decrease in truck sales compared to the same month in 2024.
However, the market is still on track to achieve its third-best year on record.
TIC CEO Tony McMullan acknowledged the slowdown but emphasized the market's strength, stating that while new truck sales have not been as robust as in previous years, they have remained resilient throughout 2025. He attributed the decline to factors such as general economic conditions and the transition to new Australian Design Rules (ADR) affecting supply chains.
Breaking down the segments, the Heavy Duty truck sector experienced a 10.4% reduction in November sales, while the Medium Duty segment saw a significant 34% decline. In contrast, the Light Duty truck segment showed slight growth, with a 0.6% increase in sales compared to November 2024.
For Australian businesses, particularly those in the transport and logistics sectors, these trends highlight the importance of strategic planning and adaptability. While certain segments face challenges, opportunities remain in others, such as the Light Duty market, which continues to perform well.
In summary, despite a downturn in sales figures, the Australian truck market's resilience underscores the industry's capacity to navigate economic fluctuations. Businesses should stay informed and agile to capitalize on emerging opportunities within the evolving market landscape.
