The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) has released data indicating a 1.3% decrease in Australian motorcycle and off-highway vehicle sales for 2025, with total units sold amounting to 92,967.
This decline reflects the ongoing economic pressures affecting discretionary spending among consumers.

Breaking down the figures, off-road motorcycle sales remained stable at 41,190 units, showing minimal change from the previous year. However, road motorcycle sales experienced a 3.6% decline, totaling 33,018 units. In contrast, the scooter segment saw a 3.8% increase, with 4,933 units sold, suggesting a growing preference for cost-effective urban transportation solutions.

FCAI Chief Executive Tony Weber commented on the market's resilience, stating, "While total volumes softened slightly, it is encouraging to see resilience in parts of the market, particularly off-road motorcycles and scooters." He also highlighted the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of motorcycles and scooters, especially in densely populated metropolitan areas.

For prospective motorcycle buyers, these trends may present opportunities to negotiate better deals, particularly in the road bike segment. Additionally, the rise in scooter sales indicates a shift towards more economical and practical commuting options, which could influence financing and insurance offerings tailored to this growing market.
