The Australian recreational vehicle (RV) industry is at a pivotal juncture, with industry leaders advocating for a comprehensive shift towards electrification to align with global trends in low-emission transportation.

Andrew Huett, co-founder of Melbourne-based off-grid RV technology company OzXCorp, has emphasised the necessity for the RV sector to adapt to full electrification. Speaking at the 2024 Victorian Caravan Supershow, Huett outlined a roadmap for the industry to transition towards sustainable, motive-assisted solutions. He stressed that failing to embrace electrification and decarbonisation could jeopardise the future viability of the RV industry.

OzXCorp has been at the forefront of this movement, developing off-grid caravan and towing solutions since 2019. Their latest technology platform, showcased at the 2024 Victorian Caravan Supershow, underwent extensive real-world testing over 15,500 kilometres. The platform features advanced lithium powerpacks capable of fast-charging electric vehicles, demonstrating the practical applications of electrified RV systems.

Huett encouraged RV owners to view investment in electrified systems as a means to enhance their travel experiences while contributing to environmental sustainability. He highlighted that integrating such technologies allows travellers to generate and utilise their own power, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and minimising their carbon footprint.

As the automotive industry continues to advance towards low-emission vehicles, the RV sector's adoption of electrification is crucial to remain competitive and relevant. Manufacturers and consumers alike are urged to embrace this transition, ensuring the longevity and sustainability of the RV lifestyle in Australia.
