Incat's Hull 096, the world's largest battery-electric ferry, has commenced sea trials on the River Derwent in Hobart.
This 130-metre vessel, capable of carrying 2,100 passengers and 225 vehicles, represents a significant advancement in sustainable marine transportation.

Powered by over 5,000 batteries weighing approximately 260 tonnes, Hull 096 can operate for 90 minutes on a single charge. The ferry is set to operate between Uruguay and Argentina, marking a major step forward in the adoption of electric propulsion in large-scale maritime applications.

The sea trials involve testing propulsion, manoeuvrability, control systems, and onboard operational performance in real-world conditions. This initiative underscores the growing global commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the maritime sector.

For Australian boat enthusiasts and industry stakeholders, Incat's achievement highlights the nation's leadership in marine innovation and sustainability. The successful deployment of such technology could pave the way for more eco-friendly boating options in the future.
