New Zealand-based company Vessev is set to revolutionize water transport in Perth by introducing electric hydrofoiling vessels to the Swan River.
In collaboration with the ENAUTIC Group, Vessev plans to deploy a fleet of VS-9 electric hydrofoiling catamarans, aiming to provide a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional watercraft.

The Swan River, which flows through the heart of Perth, has long been underutilized as a transport corridor due to strict speed and wake restrictions designed to protect the river's environment and shoreline. Traditional boats often create significant wake, leading to erosion and other ecological concerns. Vessev's hydrofoiling technology addresses these issues by lifting the vessel's hull above the water, thereby reducing drag and minimizing wake.

The initial phase of this initiative will focus on premium tourism experiences, such as charters and wine cruises, allowing passengers to experience the unique benefits of hydrofoiling technology firsthand. This approach aims to build public interest and acceptance, laying the groundwork for potential expansion into commuter routes in the future.

Josh Portlock, leading the project for ENAUTIC, emphasized the transformative potential of hydrofoiling technology, stating, 'Hydrofoiling is what makes electric water transport genuinely viable. It delivers the speed, range, and sustainability you need without compromise.'

The first VS-9 vessels are expected to arrive in Perth in early 2027. In the interim, the project will undergo necessary regulatory approvals and infrastructure preparations to ensure seamless integration into the existing transport ecosystem.

This initiative reflects a broader global trend towards sustainable and innovative water transport solutions. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, Vessev and ENAUTIC aim to unlock the full potential of the Swan River as a vital and environmentally friendly transport route for Perth's residents and visitors.
