MG Motor Australia has made a significant statement at the 2026 Melbourne Motor Show by unveiling two new electric vehicles (EVs): the U9 EV, an electric ute, and the MGS6 EV, a mid-size electric SUV.
These additions underscore MG's commitment to expanding its EV offerings and catering to the diverse preferences of Australian consumers.

The U9 EV marks MG's entry into the electric ute segment, combining a 325kW dual-motor drivetrain with a substantial 103kWh battery. This setup delivers an estimated range of approximately 430 kilometres on the WLTP cycle, positioning it as a strong contender against existing models like the Toyota HiLux BEV. Additionally, MG introduced the U9 Black Edition, featuring distinctive black styling elements, including exterior badging, grille accents, and alloy wheels. Pricing and detailed specifications for both variants are expected to be announced in the near future.

Complementing the U9 EV, the MGS6 EV enters the competitive mid-size SUV market, targeting rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, BYD Sealion 7, and Kia EV5. Available in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, the MGS6 EV boasts a driving range of up to 530 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. Drawing design inspiration from its smaller sibling, the MGS5 EV, the MGS6 EV offers a larger and more practical option for families and individuals seeking an eco-friendly vehicle without compromising on space or performance.

For potential buyers, these new models present exciting opportunities. The U9 EV offers a sustainable alternative in the traditionally diesel-dominated ute market, while the MGS6 EV provides a spacious and efficient option for those considering an electric SUV. Prospective owners should explore available financing options, including green car loans and government incentives, to make the transition to electric driving more accessible and affordable.

As MG continues to diversify its electric vehicle lineup, the introduction of the U9 EV and MGS6 EV reflects the brand's dedication to meeting the evolving demands of the Australian automotive market. These models are anticipated to arrive in showrooms within the next 12 months, offering consumers more choices in the rapidly growing EV sector.
